Simmons BAMBOO Farm
Bamboo Species:
Bambusa multiplex "Alphonse Karr"
Alphonse Karr, as this variety is commonly called, is an ornamental clumping bamboo. The culms
(stems) have beautiful green, gold and sometimes red stripes. The leaves have an occasional white
stripe. It is hardy down to 19 degrees without leaf loss and can withstand mild drought once
established. It can reach heights in excess of 25 feet under ideal conditions, but usually remains
between 15 and 20 feet at maturity. It prefers full sun and slightly acidic soil with plenty of nitrogen. It is
a member of the Bambusa multiplex group which contains some of the hardiest clumping bamboos.
